Mat Louwrens was trained as a commercial artist and won the coveted award for the best Annual Report design while he managed the finished artwork studio of Hortors Printers for a period of ten years.
Mat also had his own freelance studio for 17 years and was commissioned by De Beers, which sent him to Sweden, Ireland and England to gather material for a series of 60 paintings to hang in their various centres throughout the world.
His book Victorian Pietermaritzburg took him 3 years to produce, and depicts, in watercolours, the architectural beauties of that city.
